| Healthy Eating Has Long-Term Benefits |
Although not easy, but to get children healthy food intake will have long-term benefits. Good nutrition is the best way to prevent overweight and obesity, which now affects many children.
Overweight or obese increases the risk of children suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and sleep disorders, according to researchers from Kansas State University (KSU), United States.
"No parent wants their children to be sick, feel like a stranger in a social environment, even harassed or bullied because of their weight," said Tanda Kidd, professor of nutrition at KSU.
Therefore it is important to teach children make healthy food choices early on. "Give children lots of variety of healthy foods, then let them choose where and how much to eat," said Paula Peters, a nutritionist.
At first maybe your child will not choose any food or eating too much. "But they have a natural ability to know when they are hungry and when they are full," he continued.
Implementing a healthy diet at home can start from small things. For example, store the fruit in the refrigerator instead of cookies as a snack. Or, providing 100 percent fruit juice instead of sodas original.
Parents also should not use food as a reward for good manners or other achievement. Try to do things like read a book or play a favorite game of children together.
Parents need to set an example of healthy eating habits, so the children can see their parents make the choice on a good meal.
